Mike Pompeo was sworn in as Secretary of State on April 26, 2018. Before this role, he served as Director of the Central Intelligence Agency from January 2017 to April 2018.
Before joining the Trump Administration, Mr. Pompeo was a congressman representing Kansas’ 4th District for four terms. During his time in Congress, he served on the House Intelligence Committee, the Energy and Commerce Committee, and the House Select Benghazi Committee.
Prior to his congressional service, Mr. Pompeo founded Thayer Aerospace and held the position of CEO for over ten years. He later became President of Sentry International, a company involved in oilfield equipment manufacturing, distribution, and service.
Mr. Pompeo graduated first in his class at the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1986. He served as a cavalry officer patrolling the Iron Curtain before the fall of the Berlin Wall and was part of the US Army’s Fourth Infantry Division with the 2nd Squadron, 7th Cavalry.
After leaving active duty military service, Mr. Pompeo attended Harvard Law School where he was an editor of the Harvard Law Review.
Born on December 30, 1963, in Orange, California, Mr. Pompeo is married to Susan Pompeo and they have one son named Nick.
