The completion of a week-long workshop aimed at enhancing technical education in Egypt marked a notable development. Conducted from January 17 to January 24, the workshop was attended by 1,300 teachers and administrators from vocational schools across 11 governorates.

Sponsored by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) in collaboration with Egypt’s Ministry of Education and Technical Education (MOETE), the event sought to bridge technical schools with the private sector. It also aimed to improve career guidance skills among participants, equipping them with tools to better prepare students for the workforce.

U.S. Embassy Cairo Chargé d’Affaires Thomas H. Goldberger emphasized the significance of investing in Egypt's workforce potential: “One of Egypt’s greatest resources is the potential of its workforce. We believe in investing in Egypt, and we believe that this project is a valuable investment in the human resources that Egypt needs for its future economy.”

This initiative is part of USAID’s Workforce Improvement and Skills Enhancement (WISE) project, which collaborates with private sectors to identify workforce needs and connect students with job opportunities.

“Since 2016, USAID’s project to improve the skills and job-readiness of technical students has secured employment for nearly 7,000 and internships for over 5,350 students,” said USAID economist Jacinto Fabiosa. “More than 24,000 students have benefited from career guidance sessions and over 21,000 students received training in entrepreneurship.”

The WISE project is part of a broader $30 billion investment by American people through USAID since 1978. More information on USAID's initiatives in Egypt can be found on their website or social media platforms.
