The U.S. Embassy is inviting young writers aged 15 to 18 to apply for the 2025 International Writing Program (IWP) Between the Lines (BTL): Peace and the Writing Experience program. This initiative, sponsored by the U.S. Government, will take place from July 12 to July 26, 2025, at the University of Iowa.
Applications are due by February 10, 2025.
The program is a collaboration between the International Writing Program and the Department of State, focusing on emerging voices and youth empowerment through peaceful means. Participants should be able to travel independently with a chaperone or in a small group. They must attend all workshops, seminars, and cultural exchange sessions during the two-week program conducted in English. Activities include creative writing workshops, world literature seminars, cultural visits, and local events. At the end of the program, participants will receive a certificate and their writings will be published as an anthology by IWP.
Additionally, three overseas educators accompanying the young writers as chaperones will have a chance for cultural exchange. The IWP has developed a creative writing and professional development program for these chaperones to enhance their skills while supporting young writers.
The Department of State will cover costs related to travel, per diem, and other expenses for both young writers and chaperones during their stay in the United States.
