On January 15, 2025, the Chargé d’Affaires delivered a speech at the Egyptian Community Impact Session organized by the American Chamber of Commerce in Egypt and the U.S. Chamber’s U.S. Business Mission to Egypt. The event highlighted the contributions of U.S. companies to Egypt's economy and communities.
The Chargé began by acknowledging Tarek Tawfik and Sylvia Menassa for their leadership roles in organizing the event. The Minister of Social Solidarity was also recognized for her long-standing partnership in fostering relations between the United States and Egypt.
American companies have been credited with playing a significant role in global economic success over the past seven decades. Their commitment to being good corporate citizens wherever they operate was emphasized as a distinguishing factor from competitors worldwide.
Several U.S. companies were mentioned for their impactful presence in Egypt. Proctor & Gamble has invested significantly, employing 1,500 Egyptians and supporting numerous indirect jobs through its operations. General Motors has enhanced local suppliers' capacity, while Mars Wrigley expanded its production capabilities with new investments.
Johnson Wax has focused on environmentally-friendly production since 1982, and Heinz USA has transferred technology that enabled Egyptian-produced tomato concentrate to meet international standards. Uber's establishment of a "Center of Excellence" highlights the potential seen in Egypt's workforce.
The Chargé noted that U.S. companies are committed to social responsibility projects addressing health, environmental, and economic challenges in Egypt. Companies like Apache, PepsiCo, Pfizer, P&G, Boeing Company, Coca Cola, and Exxon Mobil were praised for their initiatives ranging from education support to environmental conservation efforts.
In addition to corporate efforts, other forms of support include investments from the Egyptian American Enterprise Fund and USAID’s engagement with private sector actors to address development challenges.
The broader U.S.-Egypt economic relationship is characterized by investment in people as part of strategic partnerships between both nations.
