Cairo – On International Youth Day, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) announced a collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports and UNICEF to support youth employment and empower girls in Egypt.
The initiative focuses on regions including Minya, Assiut, Sohag, and Qena. It aims to equip adolescents and young people with essential life skills, employability training, and entrepreneurial knowledge. As part of the "Meshwary" project, USAID is assisting in developing career guidance counselors for the Ministry of Youth and Sports. This effort is a segment of a broader USAID-UNICEF project aimed at empowering adolescent girls and addressing female genital mutilation.
"Through the 'Meshwary' project, we are equipping the next generation of Egypt’s youth with skills they need to be successful in the labor market – and in life," stated USAID/Egypt Mission Director Sherry F. Carlin at the International Youth Day event. "We are helping young people promote economic inclusion, advocate for girls’ empowerment, and reach their full potential."
This initiative is part of a $30 billion investment by American citizens in Egypt through USAID since 1978. For more information about USAID's work in Egypt, visit https://www.usaid.gov/egypt or follow @USAIDEgypt on Facebook and Twitter.
