The U.S. Embassy in Cairo has announced a partnership between the American Film Showcase (AFS) and the El Gouna Film Festival for its second edition. The collaboration will include workshops and mentoring sessions with American filmmakers Keith Fulton and Lou Pepe, hosted by the CineGouna Platform.
The AFS is a film diplomacy program under the U.S. Department of State, in collaboration with The University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts. It aims to foster cultural understanding through cinematic exchanges and support emerging filmmakers in script development.
Keith Fulton and Lou Pepe have been making films together for over two decades, both in documentary and fiction genres. Their work includes "LOST IN LA MANCHA," which was nominated for the European Film Award for Best Documentary, and "THE BAD KIDS," which won the Special Jury Prize at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival.
The U.S. Embassy is also offering a $10,000 post-production fund and an online mentorship opportunity with an American distributor to an Egyptian filmmaker during the CineGouna SpringBoard awards ceremony.
