The U.S. government, in collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the American University in Cairo (AUC), has launched career development centers at universities in Minya and Beni Suef. The initiative aims to assist students in preparing for employment by providing support tailored to market trends.
"These centers will help students prepare for, and attain, employment," stated USAID/Egypt Mission Director Sherry F. Carlin. "Students who use these career development centers will receive support to tailor their career paths based on market trends. They will also benefit from linkages between the universities and industries in Upper Egypt."
This project is an expansion of a pilot model that created numerous job opportunities for Egyptian university students. With a budget of $20 million, it aims to establish University Centers for Career Development across greater Cairo, the Delta, and Upper Egypt, potentially reaching 70 percent of university students in Egypt. These centers are designed to provide training, networking opportunities, and connections between universities and the private sector to enhance career prospects and job training for both students and alumni. Additionally, they will monitor labor market needs to help inform university curricula.
USAID's involvement with these Career Development Centers is part of a broader $30 billion investment by the American people in Egypt since 1978 through USAID initiatives.
