Experts from the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) recently convened with their Egyptian counterparts in Alexandria. The meeting aimed to exchange knowledge and explore best practices in addressing the proliferation of fraudulent documents.

During this gathering, HSI experts introduced the Forensic Laboratory (FL) archive to Egypt for the first time. This U.S.-based crime laboratory specializes in the scientific authentication and research of travel and identity documents. It holds accreditation from the American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors and Laboratory Accreditation Board.

U.S. Embassy Cairo’s Deputy Chief of Mission Dorothy Shea commented on the significance of this collaboration: “This training and joint consultation reflects the strong and enduring security partnership the United States enjoys with Egypt.” She emphasized that sharing expertise between customs enforcement units from both nations, along with document inspections by Forensic Laboratory experts, would enhance safety for citizens and secure borders.
