On June 14, 2018, Secretary Pompeo issued a statement extending his best wishes to Muslim communities celebrating Eid al-Fitr. Representing the U.S. Department of State, he acknowledged the significance of this holiday which concludes Ramadan, a month dedicated to fasting, charity, compassion, and reflection.

"Eid al-Fitr reminds all of us in the United States and abroad, Muslims and non-Muslims alike, to maintain the spirit and lessons of Ramadan throughout the year: to promote peace, to be of service to those who are suffering and displaced, to respect diversity, and to empathize with everyone around us," stated Pompeo.

He emphasized the pride that the United States takes in its strong relationships with Muslim nations globally. Additionally, he recognized the contributions made by 3.4 million American Muslims who enhance the country's social fabric daily. "These contributions reflect the United States’ bedrock principles of religious pluralism and public service," Pompeo noted.

In closing his message for Eid al-Fitr celebrations with loved ones, Pompeo wished peace and prosperity for all in the coming year. "Eid Mubarak," he concluded.
