In collaboration with the Aswan International Women’s Film Festival, the U.S. Embassy in Cairo hosted Egyptian-American film producer Dina Emam on February 25th and 26th. Emam, recognized for her work on "Yomeddine," led a workshop and engaged with female Egyptian filmmakers.

"We are delighted to provide this opportunity for Egyptian filmmakers to connect with peers and mentors, as well as to explore future collaboration, discuss funding opportunities, and share industry best practices," stated Dorothy Shea, Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy Cairo. "Film can be a powerful tool to empower women and girls, both behind and in front of the camera."

The festival also received support from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), UN Women, the National Council for Women, and the Japanese Government for producing "Between Two Seas." This Egyptian film addresses female genital mutilation's adverse effects while highlighting women's empowerment benefits. Axeer Productions produced this debut film and won two awards at the festival.

The Embassy collaborates with festivals and filmmakers across Egypt by inviting American filmmakers to conduct workshops, panels, and masterclasses. More information about cultural support from the Embassy is available at https://eg.usembassy.gov or on social media platforms @USEmbassyCairo.
