The United States Embassy in Cairo has extended its congratulations to Magda Gobran, known as Mama Maggie, for receiving the International Woman of Courage Award. The award will be presented by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and First Lady Melania Trump in Washington, DC.

Mama Maggie is recognized for her efforts in uplifting disadvantaged communities and promoting social inclusion and women's status in Egypt. She is the first Egyptian woman to receive this award.

The recognition highlights Mama Maggie's dedication to improving the lives of impoverished children through her non-governmental organization, Stephen’s Children. This organization provides food, clothing, education, mentoring, and vocational training to underprivileged children and adults across Egypt. It operates with over 2,000 volunteers who offer support and facilitate medical treatment among other services.

Her work aligns with the U.S.-Egypt strategic partnership focused on fostering economic growth and an educated population. The U.S. Embassy acknowledges her achievements with pride.

Now marking its 13th year, the International Woman of Courage Award honors women globally who show courage and leadership in advocating for various rights often at personal risk. Since 2007, more than 120 women from over 65 countries have been recognized by this initiative.
