Three Egyptian universities are set to collaborate with American counterparts to establish Centers of Excellence in energy, water, and agriculture. The initiative is backed by a $90 million investment from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). This funding aims to foster connections between Egyptian and American universities, promoting research and innovation crucial for Egypt's economic growth.
The Massachusetts Institute of Technology will join forces with Ain Shams University to create a Center of Excellence in Energy. Cornell University will partner with Cairo University for a Center of Excellence in Agriculture. Meanwhile, the American University in Cairo will work alongside Alexandria University to develop a Center of Excellence in Water.
USAID Mission Director Sherry F. Carlin stated, "The Centers will facilitate meaningful collaboration between American and Egyptian universities, as well as to serve the critical needs of industry and government in applied research and policy development in these sectors." She emphasized that these centers aim to bring together top minds to tackle shared challenges, promote innovative thinking, engage the private sector, and enhance government policies related to agriculture, water, and energy.
