The United States has extended its congratulations to Egypt as it begins its presidency of the African Union. The announcement came from Robert Palladino, Deputy Spokesperson for the U.S. Department of State.
"The United States congratulates Egypt on the start of its presidency of the African Union and looks forward to working together on the shared goal of a stable and prosperous Africa," stated Palladino.
The U.S. anticipates ongoing collaboration with the African Union during Egypt's chairmanship, focusing on expanding economic opportunities, enhancing security, and consolidating democracy and human rights across Africa.
In addition, 2019 has been declared by the AU as the Year of Refugees, Returnees, and Internally Displaced Persons. The United States is looking forward to advancing mutual goals in this area with the AU.
