The Foreign Ministers and representatives from Egypt, France, Germany, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom, and the United States convened in Washington to discuss ongoing efforts to resolve the Syrian conflict. The meeting focused on supporting the United Nations' initiatives aimed at achieving a political solution based on UN Security Council Resolution 2254.
In a joint statement, the officials emphasized that "there is no military solution for Syria and no alternative to a political solution." They stressed the necessity of diplomatic efforts and international political will to end the conflict and reduce the suffering of Syrians. The statement warned that attempts to destabilize the region or pursue a military resolution would only heighten risks of further escalation.
The group reaffirmed their commitment to advancing a political resolution aligned with UN Security Council Resolution 2254. They also reiterated their support for "the United Nations and UN Special Envoy for Syria Pedersen’s efforts," highlighting his mandate from both the Secretary-General and the UN Security Council. The ministers encouraged all parties involved in the conflict to engage meaningfully in discussions aimed at bringing an end to hostilities.
