The process for renewing visas by mail has been outlined for temporary visitors and crewmembers. The renewal interview waiver (RIW) applies to citizens or legal residents of specific countries, including Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, and others. Applicants must be physically present in these regions to qualify.

Eligibility criteria include renewing the same visa category with a prior visa issued for its full validity and expired less than 48 months ago. Applicants must not have any criminal convictions and should be able to submit their previous passport if requested. Notably, applicants must apply from outside the United States.

Applicants are advised to complete the DS-160 application online and follow prompts on the designated website. If eligible for RIW, specific instructions will guide them through the application process.

Required documentation includes a valid passport for travel to the U.S., proof of legal residency if not a citizen of listed countries, a photocopy of the most recent U.S. visa, evidence of any personal information changes since the last application, a DS-160 confirmation page, and a recent photo adhering to Department of State guidelines.

Eligible visa categories include Temporary Visitor for Business/Pleasure (B1/B2) and Alien Crewmember (C1/D). Additional documents may be required depending on the visa type.

It is recommended that individuals apply well ahead of their intended travel dates as no guarantees can be made regarding visa issuance before making final travel arrangements or purchasing non-refundable tickets.

"Please note that we may request that an applicant appear for an interview regardless of apparent qualifications for the RIW process."

"We always recommend that individuals apply for visas well in advance of their proposed date of travel."
