The United States has extended its congratulations to the people of Ghana following the successful conclusion of the December 7 general election. The announcement came from Mark Toner, Deputy Spokesperson, who also congratulated President-elect Nana Akufo-Addo on his victory.

"The peaceful and inclusive nature of the election is a testament to Ghana’s citizens and its vibrant democracy," Toner stated. He commended President Mahama for respecting the results announced by the Electoral Commission and for urging his supporters to do likewise. "Demonstrating the leadership and commitment to democracy for which Ghana is known throughout the world," he added.

Ghana’s Electoral Commission received praise for administering a credible election process. Civil society organizations were also recognized for their contributions towards ensuring a peaceful, transparent, and fair election.

Reflecting on the relationship between the two nations, Toner remarked, "As the Secretary said in his calls with the candidates, the United States and Ghana have a close and enduring friendship rooted in our mutual commitment to freedom and democratic values." He emphasized that collaboration with President-elect Akufo-Addo's administration will focus on economic growth, health, governance, and security both in Ghana and across West Africa.
