Deputy Agriculture Secretary Krysta Harden and Ghanaian Minister of Food and Agriculture Fifi Kwetey are set to announce two Food for Progress agreements aimed at bolstering agricultural development and trade in Ghana's poultry sector.

"The Food for Progress agreements are the latest example of the partnership between the people of Ghana and the United States," Harden stated. "When the government of Ghana asked for assistance to improve its poultry sector, USDA and its partners were ready to help. We are happy to be here today with ACDI/VOCA and the American Soybean Association to launch new economic development and producer outreach initiatives."

The agreement with ACDI/VOCA focuses on enhancing feed quality and veterinary services by working with producer groups and cooperatives. Meanwhile, the American Soybean Association agreement aims to educate producers on high-quality feed importance while boosting industry capacity for feed testing. These agreements are valued at $36.6 million and $21.5 million, respectively, with projects spanning five years.

USDA’s Food for Progress Program is designed to assist developing countries in modernizing their agricultural sectors. It involves donating U.S. agricultural commodities, which are sold locally, with proceeds supporting agricultural, economic, or infrastructure development programs.

These newly supported projects will aid Ghanaian farmers in improving poultry flock health and quality, thereby increasing farm income and operational efficiency.
