US embassies in Ecuador to close for National Day of Mourning

President Biden has announced a National Day of Mourning on January 9, 2025, in honor of former President Jimmy Carter. As part of this observance, the U.S. federal government will close its operations for the day. This includes the U.S. Embassy in Quito and the U.S. Consulate in Guayaquil.

The closure affects all scheduled consular services such as visa appointments and regular American Citizen Services appointments, which will be rescheduled accordingly. U.S. citizens who require emergency assistance during this period can contact the 24-hour duty officer through provided telephone numbers.

Normal operations are set to resume on January 10, 2025.
