Jonathan Turley, the U.S. Department of State's Deputy Director of the Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons, visited Brunei from January 8 to 10. The visit aimed to strengthen bilateral cooperation on combating human trafficking.

Mr. Turley's visit was aligned with National Human Trafficking Prevention Month in the United States. This month is designated by Presidential Proclamation to raise awareness about human trafficking and educate the public on identifying and preventing this crime.

During his time in Brunei, Mr. Turley met with government officials, members of the diplomatic community, and other stakeholders. Discussions focused on strategies for combating human trafficking, including enhancing law enforcement efforts, improving victim identification and protection, and strengthening prevention measures.

The United States continues its commitment to working with Brunei and other partners to address this critical global challenge.
