Siemens has introduced a new feature for its Building X Security Manager, allowing users to access buildings using Apple Wallet. This integration enables individuals to use their Apple devices, such as iPhones or Apple Watches, to enter buildings by tapping them on a compatible card reader.
The Building X Security Manager is a cloud-based application designed for managing building access control. The recent update extends the app's capabilities by incorporating Apple Wallet functionality. Users can activate badges and hold their device near an NFC-enabled lock to gain entry without unlocking their device, thanks to Express Mode. Even if an iPhone needs charging, access is possible for up to five hours with Power Reserve.
For building owners and security managers, this integration offers a secure platform for mobile credentials stored directly on devices, leveraging the privacy and security features of Apple products. It also improves efficiency and sustainability by eliminating the need for traditional plastic keys or opening an app.
Rahul Chillar, Executive Vice President of Software at Siemens Smart Infrastructure Buildings, stated: “By collaborating with Apple and LEGIC, our Building X customers can enhance their experience when entering buildings. They will benefit from a streamlined access method that feels as natural as using their device for payments, leveraging a familiar and intuitive interface.” He added that Siemens plans to implement this technology in its own buildings.
Building X is part of Siemens Xcelerator, which supports digital transformation in building operations. Siemens and LEGIC plan to showcase this integration at the Intersec 2025 fair in Dubai from January 14-16.
