The Pandemic Fund has announced a new grant envelope of $500 million for its third round of funding, aimed at enhancing health systems in low- and middle-income countries. This initiative seeks to improve disease surveillance, diagnostics, laboratory systems, and the health workforce to better prepare for future pandemics.

Countries and entities interested in applying can submit proposals through an online portal starting March 2025. The call will occur in two phases: single and multi-country proposals in March, followed by regional entity proposals in June. The focus will be on themes such as One Health, community engagement, gender equity, and strengthening public health institutions.

Dr. Chatib Basri and Dr. Sabin Nsanzimana, Co-Chairs of the Pandemic Fund Board, emphasized the urgency of pandemic preparedness. "It has been remarkable to see what the Fund has already accomplished in just two years," they said. "The recent Mpox and Marburg outbreaks have been stark reminders that there is no time to pause when it comes to pandemic preparedness."

To date, the Pandemic Fund has awarded $885 million in grants, which have mobilized an additional $6 billion through international co-financing and domestic investments across 75 countries. Priya Basu, Executive Head of the Pandemic Fund, highlighted the high demand for these grants: “Low- and middle-income countries don’t want to be caught unprepared again.”

Applications for single-country and multi-country proposals open on March 14, 2025, with a deadline of May 30. Regional entity proposals can be submitted from mid-June until mid-September 2025. Funding decisions are expected by early November.

The fund is also actively fundraising to meet its short-term goal of $2 billion by Spring 2025 after launching a campaign in July 2024.
