ANZ has announced its support for the New Melton Hospital Project by providing sustainable loan financing aimed at transforming healthcare services in Melbourne's outer west. The hospital, once operational, will reduce travel times for patients and ease demand on other hospitals in the area. Notably, it will be Victoria’s first all-electric hospital, allowing it to operate on renewable energy.
The facility is expected to handle 130,000 patients annually and will include a 24-hour emergency department, intensive care unit, radiology services, mental health services, maternity and neonatal services, and outpatient care.
Christina Tonkin, ANZ Managing Director of Corporate Finance stated: “This project will support the health and wellbeing of communities in Melbourne’s outer west, making quality healthcare easier to access and ease pressure on other western and inner-Melbourne hospitals.” She also noted that the deal enhances ANZ's standing in infrastructure finance: “This deal strengthens ANZ’s relationships in the infrastructure sector...and builds on our reputation as a leading provider of sustainability finance.”
The construction phase is projected to create over 2,400 jobs with an additional 3,975 health-related positions anticipated during its first year of operation. ANZ is providing sustainable project financing for Capella Capital-led Exemplar Health consortium to fund design, construction, and maintenance efforts.
Procured by the Victorian Government with Western Health as a clinical partner and operator under a 25-year operational concession agreement with Exemplar Health consortiums led by Capella Capital—well-known for delivering large public hospitals like New Bendigo Hospital—this initiative aims at improving healthcare accessibility.
Sarah Neaves from Capella Capital remarked: “Capella Capital is delighted to have reached this milestone. This project is a truly transformative project for Melbourne’s outer west. It will ensure communities in Melbourne’s west can access health services close to their homes.”
