The World Bank Office in Pakistan has announced a new opportunity for young economists through an online contest. The winner will secure a two-month paid position with the World Bank Economic Policy Team, working on the analysis, preparation, and launch of the 'Pakistan Development Update' report set for April 2025.
Aspiring economists interested in this opportunity must submit their academic background details via a questionnaire and provide a two-minute video addressing specific questions about their motivation for working in the development sector and their views on impactful reforms in Pakistan.
Candidates are expected to have an academic background in Economics or Public Policy, hold at least a Master's degree with up to two years post-graduation experience, and be Pakistani nationals. Selection criteria include academic qualifications, the submitted video, and an interview process for shortlisted applicants.
The program begins in February 2025, requiring candidates to work from the World Bank Group office in Islamabad for at least six weeks. Travel and lodging expenses will be covered by the World Bank. Participants will engage closely with macroeconomists at the World Bank, assisting with research assignments, data collection, report writing, presentations, and supporting the launch of the bi-annual publication.
Applicants must submit proof of enrollment or completion of their graduate program along with their video submission by December 31, 2024. Applications will be reviewed in January 2025 with selections finalized by January 24. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for interviews.
