KfW's Board of Supervisory Directors has confirmed the extension of Stefan Wintels' term as Chief Executive Officer until September 30, 2029. The announcement was made by Dr. Robert Habeck, Chair of KfW’s Board and Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, alongside Dr. Jörg Kukies, Deputy Chair and Federal Minister of Finance, after a board meeting on December 5, 2024.

Dr. Robert Habeck expressed confidence in Wintels' leadership: "KfW plays a key role in strengthening our country’s competitiveness and future viability. In recent years, Stefan Wintels has consistently aligned KfW with this role. His clear strategic focus on supporting the sustainable and digital transformation of the economy and society has been pioneering and successful. I'm delighted Stefan will continue his role at the helm of KfW and, on behalf of KfW's Board of Supervisory Directors, I would like to thank him for his huge commitment to date. I wish him continued energy and success in the years ahead."

Since November 2021, Wintels has served as CEO of KfW and Chair of the Supervisory Board of KfW Capital. During his tenure, he has led initiatives to support small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), individuals, and municipalities through tailored financing solutions. Key areas have included investments in climate-friendly measures, digital modernization efforts in Germany, and enhancing venture capital ecosystems with a focus on start-up financing.

In early 2022, under Wintels’ guidance, KfW adopted its new strategy known as KfWplus. His current term also saw efforts to mitigate the energy crisis following Russia's attack on Ukraine.
