Siemens reports progress on sustainability goals for fiscal year 2024

Siemens has reported significant advancements in its sustainability targets for 2024. Judith Wiese, Chief People and Sustainability Officer at Siemens AG, emphasized the role of technology in addressing global challenges: "Together with our customers and partners we continue to make significant strides in applying technology with purpose. Technology is a powerful tool to solve the world’s most pressing challenges, and digitalization is a key enabler to support our customers and partners achieve their own sustainability goals."

The company's efforts have resulted in substantial reductions in greenhouse gas emissions. Siemens' products sold in fiscal 2024 are expected to prevent approximately 144 million tons of emissions over their lifetime. This figure surpasses the 121 million tons of emissions generated by Siemens across its value chain during the same period.

Eva Riesenhuber, Global Head of Sustainability at Siemens, stated, “Siemens is the right partner to accelerate the sustainability transformation. We offer our customers innovations to drive decarbonization, save resources and improve the lives of people around the world.”

In terms of its internal operations, Siemens achieved a 60 percent reduction in CO₂e emissions compared to 2019 levels, surpassing its intermediate target ahead of schedule. The company aims for a 90 percent reduction by fiscal 2030 and net-zero emissions across its value chain by fiscal 2050.

Resource efficiency has also been a focus for Siemens. The company launched the EcoTech label in fiscal 2024 as part of its strategy to enhance circular economy practices. More than 25,000 products received this recognition for outperforming market standards or predecessor products.

Siemens continues to develop business practices for future challenges by integrating responsible AI principles into its processes through a generative AI governance task force.

In promoting lifelong learning and employability, Siemens invested €442 million in education initiatives in fiscal 2024. Employees completed an average of 27 digital learning hours per person globally.

Equity within Siemens has improved as well; women now hold about 32 percent of top management roles compared to 23 percent in the baseline year of 2020.

The company's sustainability efforts are guided by its DEGREE framework which addresses six areas: decarbonization, ethics, governance, resource efficiency, equity, and employability.
