This week is pivotal for the EU-Mercosur agreement as negotiations near a potential conclusion at the upcoming Mercosur Summit. The agreement, which has been in development for several years, aims to establish a market of 700 million consumers.

BusinessEurope Director General Markus J. Beyrer emphasized the importance of finalizing the agreement in light of current geopolitical and economic conditions. "In the current geopolitical and economic context, getting the EU-Mercosur agreement over the line is more important than ever," he stated. Beyrer highlighted that the deal would provide new growth opportunities for European companies facing intense competition.

He also pointed out that the agreement would enhance economic resilience and competitiveness by diversifying imports and exports. Additionally, it would enable strategic partnerships with one of the most significant and rapidly growing regions globally, covering areas from critical raw materials to digital trade.

Beyrer concluded by urging action: "This crucial agreement has been a long time in the making – now is the time to get it done."
