Thammanoon Sriroj and Prayad Marksaeng, both seasoned golfers from Thailand, have maintained their lead after the second round of the 2024 Fubon Senior Open. Sriroj finished with an even-par 72, totaling a score of 142, keeping him one shot ahead of Marksaeng. Chien-Soon Lu from Taiwan scored a field-leading 71, placing him third with a total score of 145. Lu is determined to compete for his fourth Fubon Senior Open title.
Despite favorable weather conditions at the Taiwan Golf & Country Club, challenging winds persisted. Sriroj had a strong start with four birdies in his first nine holes but encountered difficulties on the back nine. He overshot the green on hole No. 5 due to changing wind conditions, resulting in a triple bogey followed by two consecutive bogeys. "Tomorrow is going to be a fun day!" remarked Sriroj, who often plays alongside his friend Marksaeng.
Marksaeng faced challenges adapting to slower green speeds after recently winning in Japan but managed a respectable score of 73 despite some putting difficulties. Lu demonstrated his skill by shooting five birdies, becoming one of only three players to achieve an under-par score for the day.
Japanese golf veteran Masahiro Kuramoto performed well despite being significantly older than most competitors, scoring a 72 and tying for fourth place alongside Lien Lu Sen and Tsai Chi-huang. Lien Lu Sen made headlines with a hole-in-one on the 10th hole using a six-iron.
Taiwan's Ter-Chang Wang ended with an even-par 72 and shares seventh place with Thaworn Wiratchant and Hsu Mong Nan. In the super senior category, Chun-Hsing Chung leads after carding a 75.
The top 61 players will advance to tomorrow's final round alongside the second round of the super senior competition. The trio of Sriroj, Marksaeng, and Chien-Soon Lu will begin their round at 9:30 am from the first hole.
