Thai golfers Prayad Marksaeng and Thammanoon Sriroj share the lead after the first round of the 2024 Fubon Senior Open, each scoring a 2-under-par 70. The tournament is part of the Taiwan Senior PGA Tour and took place at the Taiwan Golf & Country Club. Local players Kuo-Hsiung Hsu and Hsu Mong Nan are one stroke behind, tied for third with scores of 71.
Marksaeng, who recently won in Japan, expressed confidence from his previous victory despite challenging winds on the course. "The win two weeks ago definitely boosted my confidence," he said. He aims to continue his success streak.
Sriroj had a strong start with seven birdies but faced difficulties later in his round, resulting in a few bogeys. His performance left him tied with Marksaeng at the top.
Kuo-Hsiung Hsu utilized precise short game skills to secure three consecutive birdies late in his round. Despite not playing frequently at this venue, he managed an impressive score alongside Hsu Mong Nan, who has consistently finished near the top this year.
Veteran T.C. Chen scored a 72, tying for fifth place with Tsai Chi-huang and others. Chen chose to compete against younger players rather than entering senior super competitions. "I wanted to challenge and push myself," he explained.
Tsai Chi-huang encountered issues due to unexpected wind conditions but remains optimistic about upcoming rounds. Lian-Wei Zhang also performed well with five birdies and praised Tony Hsieh's contributions to golf.
Tony Hsieh will participate as co-founder when the super senior competition begins tomorrow morning. The top 60 players will advance after completing their second round tomorrow.
Fans can attend without tickets or watch online coverage via Fubon's YouTube channel on November 14th and 15th.
