ANZ has announced a financial support package aimed at assisting Queensland banana growers and other customers affected by Cyclone Niran. The cyclone, which struck northern Queensland, caused significant damage to banana crops, properties, and essential services.

The bank is urging impacted customers to reach out when they are ready to explore various financial relief options. These include pausing payments for up to three months on home loans, credit cards, personal loans, and certain business loans—though interest may still accrue during this period. Other measures include temporary interest rate reductions for those in severe financial distress and waiving fees for restructuring business loans or accessing term deposits early.

Mark Bennett, ANZ's Head of Agribusiness, commented on the situation: “Cyclone Niran has devastated banana crops and other farms across northern Queensland as well as services and left many communities to pick up the pieces in the aftermath."

Bennett acknowledged the challenges faced by these communities: “This is a cruel blow to those communities and the Queensland farmers who have had more than their fair share of challenges in recent times. As people manage the recovery process, we hope the relief measures we’ve announced today will assist in what is a very difficult time.”

ANZ advises affected customers to visit local branches if possible or contact their relationship manager regarding business or personal impacts. Customers can also reach ANZ’s dedicated financial hardship team at 1800 149 549 or via anz.com.au/support/natural-disaster-support/.
