In 2020, ANZ embarked on a mission to enhance its human rights policies and processes. This initiative includes revising business customer screening procedures, updating human rights standards, and creating a grievance mechanism for affected communities.
This effort is noted in the Statement of the Parties related to the Australian National Contact Point complaint concerning Cambodian families. ANZ's approach is guided by an external multi-stakeholder working group. However, their participation does not imply support for the outcomes of this review or any other activities conducted by ANZ.
The organization plans to provide updates on this review through its ESG reporting, with an expected completion date set for mid-2021.
The external stakeholder working group comprises several organizations and individuals: Accountability Counsel; Rebekah Armstrong from Business and Human Rights Consultants; BankTrack; BHP; Business Council of Australia; Centre for Research on Multinational Corporations (SOMO); Equitable Cambodia; Finance Sector Union; Human Rights Law Centre; Inclusive Development International; Associate Professor Shelley Marshall with Olivia Dean's support; Minerals Council of Australia; Reconciliation Australia; Emeritus Professor Paul Redmond AM from UNSW Law and UTS; Angela Reeman from Reeman Consulting; Benson Saulo; Uniting Church in Australia, Synod Vic. & Tas.; and Vanessa Zimmerman from Pillar Two as Facilitator.
