The Board of ANZ has announced that Paul O’Sullivan will take over as Chairman from David Gonski after the finalization of the full-year results on October 28, 2020. This follows Mr. Gonski's decision to retire from the Board after six and a half years as Chairman.
Mr. Gonski has been associated with ANZ for many years, first serving on the Board between February 2002 and June 2007, before returning as Chairman in 2014. Reflecting on his tenure, Mr. Gonski stated: “It has been an honor to work with my fellow directors and the management team on delivering the best possible outcomes for our customers and shareholders." He highlighted assembling a talented leadership team led by Chief Executive Shayne Elliott as one of his proudest achievements.
Expressing confidence in his successor, Mr. Gonski said, “I’m delighted Paul has agreed to succeed me as Chairman. Paul is an outstanding director who has already made a strong contribution to ANZ."
Mr. O’Sullivan acknowledged Mr. Gonski's contributions: “David has made a significant contribution to ANZ over more than a decade of committed service." He emphasized his focus as Chairman would be on improving operations and simplifying the bank for its stakeholders.
Currently, Mr. O’Sullivan serves as Chairman of Western Sydney Airport Corporation and Optus and is a director at Coca Cola Amatil among other roles. His past experience includes senior executive positions at Singapore Telecommunications (Singtel) and CEO of Optus from 2004 to 2012.
ANZ continues its commitment to helping the economy recover from COVID-19 impacts under new leadership.
