ANZ has announced a financial support package for customers and businesses in Western Australia affected by Tropical Cyclone Seroja. The cyclone, which hit near Kalbarri with winds reaching 170 km/h, has caused significant damage across more than 1,000 km of the region. Damaged homes, fallen trees, and downed power lines have been reported.
The bank is urging affected customers to reach out when ready to discuss available financial assistance options. These include pausing payments on various loans for up to three months, though interest may still apply during this period. ANZ is also offering temporary interest rate reductions for those in severe financial distress and waiving fees for business loan restructuring and early access to term deposits.
Kathleen Jahour, ANZ's general manager for Western Australia, stated: “Cyclone Seroja has left a path of destruction in its wake that will likely affect hundreds of residents, many of whom will not yet know the full extent of the damage." She added that these relief measures aim to assist those beginning their recovery process.
Affected customers are encouraged to visit local branches or contact their relationship managers to discuss impacts on their personal or business situations. Additionally, ANZ's financial hardship team can be reached at 1800 149 549 or through anz.com.au/support/natural-disaster-support/.
Customers with ANZ Home and Contents Insurance might qualify for emergency funds and temporary accommodation. Insurance claims can be lodged by calling 13 16 14 or visiting anz.com/insuranceclaims.
