The World Bank Group has announced the appointment of Dennis McLaughlin as its new Chief Risk Officer and Vice President. This decision was made public on November 6, 2024.
World Bank Group President Ajay Banga expressed confidence in McLaughlin's capabilities, stating, “Dennis has the deep financial expertise to support our success, and I am very pleased to have him join us as Chief Risk Officer.” Banga further highlighted McLaughlin's role in providing independent oversight of market, credit, and operational risks while supporting strategic initiatives aimed at optimizing resources for maximum impact.
McLaughlin is currently serving as the interim Chief Risk Officer at Fnality Services, a company focused on blockchain-based financial services. His previous roles include Group Chief Risk Officer at the London Clearing House, Head of Financial Risk at the London Stock Exchange Group, CEO at the Aon Center for Innovation and Analytics, with additional experience at Merrill Lynch, McKinsey, and Princeton University.
Known for his transformative leadership in financial services, McLaughlin has been instrumental in developing innovative analytics within fintech and other financial sectors. Notably, he introduced a new suite of risk analytics in the insurance industry.
An Irish and British national, McLaughlin holds a PhD in mathematics from Brown University, an MBA in finance from Wharton School, and an MA in Mathematical Science from University College Dublin. He will begin his term on January 2, 2025.
