ANZ has announced the appointment of Rufus Pinto as Country Head for India. He will report to Vishnu Shahaney, who is the Head of South East Asia, India and Middle East, and also serves as Country Head for Singapore.

Rufus Pinto joined ANZ in 2011 and is currently serving as the Country Head for the Philippines. Throughout his career with ANZ, he has held similar positions in five different markets within the bank's international network, including Laos, Kiribati, Vanuatu, and New Caledonia.

Originally from India, Mr. Pinto relocated to Australia in 2003. During his time there, he worked at major Australian banks such as Westpac and NAB in Melbourne.

Vishnu Shahaney commented on Mr. Pinto's new role: “Rufus has impressive cross-border banking experience in the Asia Pacific region and knows the India market well, which will be a significant benefit to our customers in this critical market.”

Simon Ireland, ANZ Managing Director for International operations stated: “We see enormous opportunity in India amid the strong economic recovery currently underway, and the upward trajectory in bilateral trade between Australia and India."

He added: "In addition, our customers in India have significant investment and trade interests in South East Asia; therefore our international footprint means ANZ is well positioned to support their growth across the region.”

The Reserve Bank of India has approved Mr. Pinto’s appointment. He will be based in Mumbai and is set to begin his new role early next year.
