ANZ appoints Simon Ireland as managing director for international operations

ANZ has announced the appointment of Simon Ireland as Managing Director, International. He will report to Mark Whelan, Group Executive, Institutional. Mr. Ireland joined ANZ in 2008 and is currently serving as Global Head of the Financial Institutions Group in Hong Kong. In his new position, he will oversee ANZ's Institutional business across 19 markets including Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and America.

Before joining ANZ, Mr. Ireland held various roles at prominent financial institutions such as Lehman Brothers, Chase Manhattan Bank, Citibank, HSBC, RBS, and Bank of America in cities like Hong Kong, Singapore, London, San Francisco, and Sydney.

Mark Whelan commented on the appointment: “Simon is one of our most experienced banking executives in the Asia Pacific region. He is the ideal candidate for this role due to his deep understanding of international markets and his ability to help our customers navigate evolving geopolitical and economic conditions around the region."

Whelan further stated: “Simon is an outstanding risk manager with a proven track record of delivering strong profitable growth in one of our most important global businesses in a sustainable way.”

Mr. Ireland will begin his new role on October 18th while continuing to be based in Hong Kong. The appointment awaits regulatory approvals. He succeeds Farhan Faruqui who has been named ANZ Group Chief Financial Officer.
