ANZ has announced the appointment of Evelyn Halls as Customer Fairness Advisor. In this position, she will report to Chief Executive Officer Shayne Elliott and work towards enhancing the fairness of ANZ's products and services for its Australian customers.

Ms. Halls brings over 25 years of experience in legal and financial services, having served most recently as Lead Ombudsman at the Australian Financial Complaints Authority. Her background includes extensive expertise in banking and finance, general insurance, investments, and advice.

ANZ CEO Shayne Elliott commented on her appointment: “Evelyn’s significant experience across the financial services sector will be crucial in helping us deliver fair products and services." He further emphasized the importance of her role as ANZ's services become increasingly digital: "We’ll be particularly looking to Evelyn to help us use data responsibly and ensure our decision making is fair."

The role of Customer Fairness Advisor was first established by ANZ in 2016. Mr. Elliott expressed confidence that Ms. Halls would build upon the foundation laid by Colin Neave, who was ANZ’s inaugural Customer Fairness Advisor.

Prior to joining ANZ, Ms. Halls worked as a partner at Herbert Smith Freehills, advising corporate and government clients on governance matters. She is also notable for her achievements outside the financial sector; she is a two-time Olympian and an Executive member of the Australian Olympic Committee. Recently, she served as Deputy Chef de Mission for the Australian Olympic Team at the Tokyo Olympics.

Additionally, Ms. Halls holds roles within sports ethics organizations such as being a member of Athletics Australia's Ethics & Integrity Committee and previously serving as an Integrity Commissioner for Cricket Victoria.

She will be based in Melbourne and begin her new role with ANZ in late March.
