ANZ has announced the resignation of Emma Gray, Group Executive Data and Automation. Gray joined ANZ in February 2017 as the inaugural Chief Data Officer and was promoted to the Group Executive Committee in May 2020.

Throughout her five-year tenure, Gray played a significant role in developing data management expertise during pivotal industry changes such as Comprehensive Credit Reporting and Open Banking. She also led initiatives in automation and operations transformation.

Shayne Elliott, ANZ's Chief Executive Officer, commented on her departure: “Emma is an outstanding leader and while we are disappointed to lose someone of her calibre, we respect her decision and wish her well. Emma can be proud of the contribution she has made preparing the bank for the future and building a team of highly credentialed data experts. I know Emma will spend the next few months prioritising spending time with family overseas and contemplating her next chapter.”

Gray expressed satisfaction with her time at ANZ: “I’ve really enjoyed my time at ANZ and I’m extremely proud of the amazing team I have built, setting ANZ up for ongoing transformation.”

Following Gray's departure in August 2022, Michelle Pinheiro will assume core data responsibilities as Chief Risk Officer Data & Technology, reporting to Group Chief Risk Officer Kevin Corbally.
