ANZ has announced the appointment of Clare Morgan as Group Executive Australia Commercial. Ms. Morgan will report directly to Chief Executive Officer Shayne Elliott and will be part of ANZ's Executive Committee. In her new role, she will oversee ANZ's commercial business in Australia, managing a team that serves a range of customers from sole proprietors to emerging corporates and private banking clients.
Ms. Morgan brings with her extensive experience in financial services, having held various roles in business and institutional banking sales and product management in both Australia and the United States. Prior to joining ANZ, she served as Executive General Manager of Small Business Banking at Commonwealth Bank of Australia.
CEO Shayne Elliott expressed confidence in Ms. Morgan's leadership abilities: “Clare is an outstanding leader and I’m confident her business banking experience will be an asset to both ANZ and our customers. This is a significant appointment for ANZ as we continue to transform how we serve our commercial customers through the better use of digital platforms and data.”
The decision to appoint Ms. Morgan follows ANZ's move earlier this year to establish Australia Commercial as a separate division. Mr. Elliott highlighted the importance of focusing on small businesses: “While banking small businesses has always been core to what we do, it’s the right time to increase focus on this market, given it is a significant opportunity for ANZ and the progress we have made in other parts of our business."
Mr. Elliott also noted the strength of ANZ's leadership team: “Clare joins an experienced team running our major businesses with Antonia Watson leading New Zealand through a period of major change, Maile Carnegie returning Australia Retail to growth and Mark Whelan having transformed Institutional into one of the best run wholesale banking businesses globally.”
Ms. Morgan is expected to commence her role at ANZ in early 2023 and will be based in Sydney.
