The Islamic Republic of Mauritania is set to host a significant forum on livestock and pastoralism in the Sahel and West Africa from November 6 to 8, 2024. The event, themed “Nouakchott+10: A Decade of Action for Pastoral and Agropastoral Communities – Achievements and Future Pathways,” commemorates ten years since the Ndjamena and Nouakchott Declarations. These declarations were pivotal in establishing objectives aimed at securing the livelihoods and production systems of pastoralist communities.
The Permanent Inter-State Committee for Drought Control in the Sahel (CILSS), in collaboration with the Government of Mauritania and the World Bank Group, has organized this forum. It will serve as a platform to review a decade marked by significant investments and initiatives focused on pastoralism and livestock management across the Sahel and West Africa.
Attendees will include high-level government officials from various countries in the region, technical and financial partners, representatives from pastoral and agropastoral communities, private sector stakeholders, and experts. They will convene to discuss successes achieved over the past decade, address critical challenges faced by these communities, and chart a strategic course forward to bolster this essential sector for West African economies.
The forum will take place at Palais des Congrès de Nouakchott.
