The World Bank has approved a $100.4 million Human Capital Protection Project to support Burkina Faso's efforts in delivering basic social services. The project aims to improve access to health and education services in the country.

In the health sector, the initiative will finance free healthcare for women and children, cover operating costs of hospitals and health centers, and provide vaccines to strengthen children's immune systems.

In education, the project will fund examinations and competitions to evaluate student achievements. It will also offer training and support for teachers through pedagogical kits aimed at improving learning quality.

"This human development project is part of Burkina Faso's 2021-2025 development strategy. It should contribute to its improvement by boosting the education and health sectors in particular," said Hamoud Abdel Wedoud Kamil, World Bank Country Manager for Burkina Faso.

The Human Capital Protection Project is financed by the International Development Association (IDA), aligning with the World Bank's strategy for West and Central Africa to strengthen key institutions involved in delivering basic social services.

World Bank Project Managers Ousmane Kolie and Daniel Pajank noted, "The proposed operation is very timely as it will help preserve the gains made in the education and health sectors, which have been affected by the security crisis. Populations, including internally displaced persons, will have better access to more basic social services."
