China has initiated a dispute complaint with the World Trade Organization (WTO) regarding the European Union's subsidy duties on electric vehicles. According to China, the measures appear inconsistent with Article VI of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade 1994 and various provisions of the WTO's Agreement on Subsidies and Countervailing Measures.

Further information is available in document WT/DS626/1.

The request for consultations formally initiates a dispute in the WTO. Consultations provide an opportunity for parties to discuss the matter and seek a satisfactory solution without proceeding further into litigation. If consultations fail to resolve the dispute after 60 days, the complainant may request adjudication by a panel.
