Dr. Alain Berinstain has recently joined Consolidated Safety Service Inc., (CSS) as the company’s chief strategy officer. In this role, Berinstain will report directly to CEO and co-founder Dennis Lauchner.
CSS, founded in 1988, offers a wide range of services including earth and space science support and operations; emergency preparedness and response; environmental resource assessment and management among others. The aim is to assist clients in achieving their objectives safely. The company caters to both public and private sectors, as stated on the company's website.
Dennis Lauchner announced Berinstain's appointment on February 15, saying, "Alain is a veteran of the space industry with experience in both the public and private sectors. He joins our team at the perfect time as CSS builds on its strong, 35-year foundation to grow its space business and create partnerships to contribute to the commercial space economy."
Berinstain brings over two decades of experience in the space industry. His past roles include six years as director of planetary exploration and space astronomy with the Canadian Space Agency, nearly three years as director of science and development with the same agency. He also served for the government of Canada as director of policy for the minister of transport, vice president of global business development for Moon Express, and most recently held the position of chief strategy officer at Space Tango, according to his LinkedIn profile.
During his tenure with the Canadian government, Berinstain played leadership roles in international space cooperation strategy for entities such as International Space Exploration Coordination Group and International Mars Exploration Working Group. He was part of the Canadian delegation to European Space Agency’s Board for Human Exploration and Microgravity. Moreover, he has developed science payloads and instrumentation for missions on various platforms like space shuttle, space station Mir and International Space Station.
