Kristalina Georgieva, managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), has recently announced the appointment of Brian Christensen as IMF Director of Corporate Services and Facilities (CSF), according to an IMF press release.

Christensen will succeed Jennifer Lester, whose retirement from the IMF was officially announced on July 22.

“Brian is a highly respected strategic and operational leader, with a sharp and inquisitive mind,"  Georgieva said, "He is well known for his ability to overcome the most complex challenges with a clear and carefully thought-out blueprint; as a people leader, his care and concern for others is deeply valued by his staff and colleagues across the Fund."

Prior to becoming director of the Corporate Services and Facilities Department, Christensen had served as the department's deputy director.

"Over the past three years, as the alternate chair of the Fund’s Crisis Management Team and deputy lead of the Hybrid Model Working Group, Brian was at the heart of helping all of us at the Fund navigate the COVID-19 pandemic," Georgieva  said, "His strategic leadership, combined with innovative thinking, attention to detail, and a deep care for our people and their safety allowed us to transition to work from home and now to a hybrid work model."

Additionally, he served as a consultant and subsequently an assistant in the Office of Budget and Planning.

In these positions, Christensen managed the IMF's corporate budget strategy, directed IT investments, and made significant contributions to Fund-wide projects and programs including the HQ1 Renewal Project.

As director of the Fiscal Affairs Department's resource and information management section, Christensen also contributed substantially to the creation and deployment of the Fund's innovative capacity development funding model.

He started his career with the Fund in the former Office of Technical Assistance Management in 2001, where he managed the development of the IMF's first two African Regional Technical Assistance Centers.

Christensen will officially commence his position as director of the IMF's Department of Corporate Services and Facilities on Nov. 1.
