Ferny Grove line passengers in the Australian state of Queensland can now utilize credit cards, debit cards, and smart devices to pay for their travel.

The Smart Ticketing technology currently being installed by Cubic is the most advanced available, according to Business Wire. Cubic is the prime training support contractor at Australia’s Navy Synthetic Warfighting Centre (NSWC).

John Karaboulis, managing director of Cubic Australia, recently said the project is to be celebrated.

“Queensland should be congratulated for this landmark project – installing the world’s most modern and largest contactless ticketing system right across the state, an area larger than Great Britain and more than twice the size of Texas,” he said.

A Translink official discussed how the transition to the new technology will work.

“A trial of Smart Ticketing on the Ferny Grove rail line in Brisbane will lead to full deployment across the entire passenger rail system, with buses and ferries to follow,” Sally Stannard, head of Translink, said.

Karaboulis was optimistic about how the new technology will be received by consumers.

“Commuters love the speed and convenience of the Smart Ticketing payment options," he said. "Based on the enthusiastic commuter responses to the contactless systems that Cubic has installed in London and New York, we are confident Brisbane train commuters will also be excited about this new technology, which is going to make public transport more accessible and even easier to use.”
