A new report describes the hot market for vehicles with "skateboard chassis."
The report is called "Global and China Skateboard Chassis Industry Report," a news release said.
A skateboard is "a type of configuration for automotive chassis, used for automotive platforms of battery electric vehicles," Wikipedia said. "The skateboard chassis includes a base structure or a platform, which houses the batteries, electric motors and other electronic components fundamental to an electric vehicle."
The report is a guide to sales of skateboard chassis: "where to sell, how to sell and to whom it is sold," the news release said.
"Rivian, a new carmaker based on skateboard chassis, is quite popular in the market and becomes the focus of the automotive industry when it makes its debut," the release said. "Also, there emerge a number of skateboard chassis manufacturers like Canoo, Arrival and REE as well as the Chinese peers such as UPower, PIX Moving, ECAR and IT BOX."
There are two types of skateboard chassis: One with passengers, the other for cargo such as vans and delivery vehicles.
The majority of chassis makers are exploring high-speed transportation of passengers and goods, and only Israeli REE and Chinese PIX Moving and ECAR are involved in low-speed scenarios," the news release said.
"The skateboard chassis can give birth to a variety of functional vehicles, with infinite potential," the news release said.
In September 2019, Rivian received an order from Amazon for 100,000 electric vans with skateboard chassis, the news release said.
The report is offered by a company called Research and Markets.
