The Asia Society hosted a physical discussion titled “The Dangers of a Catastrophic Conflict Between the U.S. and Xi Jinping’s China,” featuring ASPI President and The Avoidable War author, Kevin Rudd.

“Geopolitical disaster is still avoidable, but only if these two giants can find a way to coexist without betraying their core interests,” an event descriptive posted on the organization’s website stated.

Just a week after its live webcast version, the event was scheduled for March 29 in New York City.

It focused on Asia Society Policy Institute’s Avoidable War Project, which helped develop the U.S.-China relations book by Rudd. The session covered the perspectives of both, the U.S and China, the benefits they gain from each other and the particularities of their “managed strategic competition.”

It also highlighted specifics about occurrences during which military parties have stolen “intellectual property, intelligence satellites peer and an AI technician's plot,” strengthening the possibility of fatal results.

The description explained that the tensions between the two countries “rests on a seismic fault of cultural misunderstanding, historical grievance and ideological incompatibility.”

“Should they fail, down that path lies the possibility of a war that could rewrite the future of both countries, and the world,” the description warned.

The speakers who were scheduled to attend are Rudd, Point72 asset management senior management member and Hamid Biglari. They spoke alongside ambassador-at-large with the Singapore Foreign Ministry, Chan Heng Chee during the virtual conference. Founder of Eurasia Group Ian Bremmer, also contributed to the discussion.

Copies of The Avoidable War were disbursed to patrons at the event.
