Southeastern Grocers (SEG) Inc. has donated $250,000 to the International Committee of the Red Cross in light of the hardships Ukrainians are facing amid its conflict with Russia.
The donation comes alongside Harveys Supermarkets and Winn-Dixie grocery stores and the SEG Gives Foundation, a recent release states. As the grocer continues to stand by Ukraine, SEG will also donate 100% of the proceeds from its private-label Ukrainian vodka to aid their fight for the next 31 days—a nod to the country’s official declaration of independence nearly 31 years ago.
“At Southeastern Grocers, we are guided by doing the right thing; we recognize the people of Ukraine need our help, and they need it now,” Anthony Hucker, president and CEO of Southeastern Grocers, said in the release. “That’s why we are immediately directing funds to the International Committee of the Red Cross to support the victims of the war in Ukraine."
This isn’t the first time SEG has made a push for global support. Through its longstanding partnership with the American Red Cross, the organization has already donated over $11 million to the Red Cross during periods of global crisis.
The company has one factory with 1,300 employees in the area.
