Halliburton Company recently expanded its manufacturing abilities in the Middle East with the opening of a new chemical reaction plant in Saudi Arabia.

“We are excited to complete this significant investment and to deliver our chemical applications expertise to our Eastern Hemisphere customers,” said Jeff Miller, Halliburton chairman, president and CEO.

Serving as the first of its kind in the country, the new establishment serves as an expansion of the company’s manufacturing operations in the Eastern Hemisphere.

“This world-class plant is part of our more than $1 billion commitment to Saudi Arabia over the past 10 years. It further increases our in-country presence and supports the In Kingdom Total Value Add program by providing new opportunities to local suppliers, vendors, other manufacturing partners and the local workforce,” Miller said.

It will be used to manufacture a variety of chemicals intended for the entire oil and gas value chain’s use, among other industries, a related press release reports. Halliburton hopes it will also make way for manufacturing and tolling contract opportunities to support several industries in Saudi Arabia, including agriculture, mining and personal care.

With the new base, the global energy provider hopes to better meet the demands of its current Middle Eastern clients across various industries, including "industrial water and process treatment markets, including refineries, petrochemical plants and other heavy industrial operations."

In addition to manufacturing, the Houston-based company hopes to expand its “applications for oilfield stimulation and production.” Located at the PlasChem Park in Jubail, the plant will prioritize the innovation of research and development related to speciality chemical reactions and potential technical solutions for the local market.

“The inauguration of the Halliburton Chemical Reaction Plant, along with the upcoming projects, will help realize the Kingdom’s Downstream Initiative, combining global expertise with the special chemicals that Sadara produces, for the benefit of local, regional and global markets,” said Sadara Chemical CEO Dr. Faisal Al-Faqeer.
