'A strong addition to our global advisory network': Lazard names Mahuad CEO, Financial Advisory, Mexico

Lazard Ltd. is welcoming Emilio Mahuad as the CEO of its Mexico Financial Advisory business, a move that is effective immediately. 

A release from Lazard stated Mahuad will be based in Mexico City. Peter Orszag, CEO of Lazard Financial Advisory, noted in the release that he brings more than 20 years of experience in building investment banking businesses. 

“His track record and extensive network of relationships across Latin America make him a strong addition to our global advisory network, and we expect that Emilio will drive our business in Mexico to new levels of performance,” Orszag said in the news release. 

Mahuad comes to the company following an eight-year stint at UBS, where he was most recently country head and head of Global Banking Mexico, the release stated. He also worked for nearly a decade as the managing director for Bank of America Merrill Lynch’s investment banking practice in Mexico City and held positions in New York with Bear, Stearns & Co. and RBC Capital Markets.

Moreover, the company’s release noted that Mahuad’s credentials also include advising on deals representing more than $50 billion in several sectors in the Americas. He has advised clients on deals involving a number of Mexican companies, according to the release, including Alsea, Grupo Axo, Cinepolis, Q’Max Solutions Inc., Magenta and Infraestructura. 

The release also noted that Mahuad earned his bachelor’s degree in economics from the Universidad Iberoamericana and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
