China Telecom (Americas) Corporation garnered the 2021 United States-China Business Leadership Award during the 26th U.S.-China Policy Foundation Annual Gala in December.

The award honors successful U.S. or Chinese companies and business leaders who value and support efforts to increase U.S.-China engagement, people-to-people exchanges, and mutual understanding, according to a report on the China General Chamber of Commerce – USA website.

Chi Wang, co-chair and president of the U.S.-China Policy Foundation, presented the award to Steven Xu Tan, president of China Telecom (Americas) Corporation, the report stated.

As he accepted the award, Tan shared some insight on how companies and nations can work together.

“In the digital age, when governments build walls, people wither; wherever information flows, people flourish,” he said. “Not a single country or company has the resource and know-how to connect itself to the world. We must work together.”

He shared the impact of one circuit that has the power to connect continents.

“A circuit between New York and Shanghai means more than wires and signals,” he said in his acceptance speech. “It connects brands with consumers, manufacturers with supply chains, content creators with audiences, patients with doctors, and children with their faraway parents. Along with commerce, communication, and connections, came prosperity, partnership and percipience between China, the U.S. and rest of the world.”

China Telecom Corporation Americas is a wholly owned subsidiary of China Telecom Corp. Ltd, one of the world’s largest providers of integrated telecommunication services with offices in over 40 countries and regions around the world, according to the report.
